Beschreibung

During machining a high thermo-mechanical load results at the cutting edge. This load depends on the properties of the workpiece material and machining parameters, which determines the performance of the tool. Due to the shape of the cutting edge the machining performance can be influenced decisively. This paper deals with the influence of rounded cutting edges and modified flank face geometries on wear behavior of different materials. The preparation of rounded cutting edges was conducted by means of abrasive brushing, and the flank face modification by laser machining. With the developed cutting edge geometries the tool life was increased significantly.
