Beschreibung

In HPC milling of steel high values for chip thickness in concurrence with high cutting speeds lead to an intense thermo-mechanical load of the substrate-coating-system. Coating wear is influenced by the complicated interaction of process parameters, coating, substrate and material properties. Regarding dry machining of medium carbon steel, tool life is primarily determined by adhesive and abrasive wear. In this study, five different coating systems (two AlCrN, two AlTiSiN, one TiAlN) are applied in HPC-milling of AISI 1045. The results show that the chip segmentation ratio is significantly influenced by the coating type and thus determines tool wear behavior.
