Virtual process commissioning

We are significantly engaged in the implementation of a virtual commissioning of metal-cutting manufacturing processes. In doing so, we use process simulations, optimization algorithms, machine learning methods from the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality. The usable data set is additionally extended by quality, machine and sensor data to use a feedback loop and an adaptive system.

Process planning is currently characterized by elaborate adjustment tests, which are used to design the specific process manipulated variables and adapt the NC code for error compensation. Our vision is an automated virtual process enablement to perform a resource-efficient error compensation digitally in advance. This will save machine capacities and significantly reduce the amount of rejects generated during trials.

Building on basic research projects, we are working on the implementation of virtual iteration loops for fine-tuning the process. This means shorter commissioning times for new process planning, which in particular increases the economic efficiency of one-off and small batch production and provides an advantage in the case of individual products in small batch sizes.

OUR COMPETENCIES IN VIRTUAL PROCESS COMMISSIONING:

  • Simulation-based shape error compensation
  • Virtual manipulated variable optimization
  • Augmented reality for data visualization
  • Process parallel simulation
  • Digital workpiece twin as 3D process protocol
