Our first newsletter focuses on ‘AI in manufacturing’. Drawing on current research projects, we demonstrate how AI can already be used today to make manufacturing processes more efficient and resilient.
One example of this is machine-integrated wear monitoring for single-part and small-batch production. A camera-based system detects tool wear directly within the machine and, with the help of AI, predicts the optimal time for a tool change.
AI is also being used in the process monitoring of drilling operations. In collaboration with iba AG, a solution has been developed that detects anomalies right from the very first drill hole. The system operates reliably and flexibly and requires no reference data – a key advantage, particularly for the production of individual parts.
The ProKI-Next-Hannover demonstration and transfer network also illustrates how AI applications can make the transition from research to operational practice. It supports small and medium-sized enterprises in familiarising themselves with AI applications, identifying potential for their own production and taking the first steps towards practical implementation. The services are free of charge for companies.
