A central component of the retreat was the presentations of the sub-projects. The PhD students presented the current status of their work, discussed results and received valuable feedback from their colleagues. In addition, several laboratory tours provided insights into experimental setups and methods and fostered interdisciplinary exchange between the projects. Furthermore, a workshop on scientific writing provided practical skills on structuring academic texts, writing publications with a clear purpose, and navigating peer-review processes.
The retreat was rounded off by joint evening events and a team-building activity, which further strengthened informal exchanges. Mariem Ben Salem and Patricia Wessel attended on behalf of the Institute for Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) and summed up: “The PhD retreat was a valuable platform for technical discussion, for further developing our own research, and for fostering collaboration within TRR 375.”
