Research staff at the WGP institutes traditionally meet once a year to exchange professional ideas. This year’s networking event once again offered a varied programme: As well as providing insights into the experimental facilities and research work of the host institutes at TU Dresden, this year’s programme also included the WGP football tournament, in which the teams competed with great sporting spirit for the WGP trophies.
A total of 15 teams from across Germany took part in the tournament, including teams from Berlin, Aachen, Dortmund and Munich. Four institutes from the Hannover Centre for Production Technology (PZH) took part:
- the Institute of Forming Technology and Machines (IFUM),
- the Institute of Transport and Automation Technology (ITA),
- the Institute of Assembly Technology and Robotics (match) and
- the Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW).
The IFW team got off to a flying start in the tournament. They secured 2–0 victories against their colleagues from IFUM Hannover and against iwb Munich. The team then had a longer break, as only two group matches had to be played due to the odd number of participating teams.
In the intermediate round, the IFW faced the IMM Dresden and were narrowly defeated 0–1 following a well-executed counter-attack. In the subsequent match against the wbk Karlsruhe, they secured a 1–0 victory, meaning that the final match of the tournament against the ISW Stuttgart would decide fifth place.
After a 1–1 draw at the end of normal time, the match was decided on penalties. ISW Stuttgart prevailed, winning 5–4. The IFW thus finished in sixth place and, at the same time, successfully secured the PZH Championship.
In the final, PTK Darmstadt secured a commanding victory against IWF Berlin. We would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations once again on winning the tournament!
The day drew to a close with an evening event at the hosts’ research facilities. Following the official prize-giving ceremony, the participants spent the rest of the evening together in a relaxed atmosphere, exchanging professional views and viewing the machinery and test rigs on site.
On the final day of the event, the focus was once again on science. At 9 am sharp, the remaining participants visited the Dresden Technical Collections, where they gained further fascinating insights into the history of technology and industry.
Many thanks to the host team at TU Dresden for the excellent organisation – we are already looking forward to the next networking event!
