Scholarship programmes for international study visits offer you financial support so that you can fully concentrate on your experience abroad. Take advantage of these potential funding opportunities to conduct your research project at an international research institution and enrich your academic career.

The Kurt Alten Foundation Technology Award

We have been cooperating with the Kurt Alten Foundation for many years to support students during their international stays. The Kurt Alten Foundation sponsors research stays for young scientists through the Technology Prize with up to 10,000 euros in funding. The exact amount is based on the expected costs of the stay.

Talented students and doctoral candidates in the natural sciences and engineering can apply for the prize. The funding is independent of the exchange destination. Applicants choose their own worldwide destination for a sponsored student research project, thesis or internship.

We have a worldwide network of partner research institutions with existing exchange agreements. These include, for example, the University of Wollongong (Australia) and the University of British Columbia (Canada). We are also happy to help you choose the right location for your stay.

 

Information on the application process and selection criteria

  • What requirements do I need to fulfil?

    If you would like to apply for the Kurt Alten Foundation Technology Award, you should fulfil these requirements:

    • You are studying in an engineering or science subject.
    • You are under 30 years old.
    • You have above-average academic achievements.
    • You are interested in production technology topics.

    We look forward to receiving your application if you are dedicated and have a wide range of interests. You can demonstrate this, for example, through voluntary work or special extracurricular activities. We not only want to understand your academic achievements, but also get to know your personality.

  • When can I apply for the scholarship?

    You can apply for the Technology Award at any time. Ideally, you should plan your stay abroad at least one semester in advance. This leaves enough time for the selection process and your preparation.

    Another advantage: we can provide you with better support. We will also be happy to place you at one of our international partner locations for your stay.

  • What application documents do I need?

    We need the following documents to select suitable applicants:

    • Kurt Alten Foundation application form
    • Cover letter/letter of motivation
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Certificates (Bachelor's and Abitur certificates, optional: work references)
    • Current academic transcript
    • A list of costs for planned flights, accommodation, insurance and other costs during your stay

    If you wish, you may add a reference letter to your application. Please combine all documents into one PDF file (max. 10 MB) and send it by e-mail to your contact person: Beate Legutko.

  • Where do I submit my application documents?

    Please submit your completed application documents by e-mail to your contact person (Beate Legutko). Please combine all your documents into one PDF file with a maximum file size of 10 MB.

  • How does the selection process work?

    Once we have received your application, we will carefully review it. If you are eligible for the Technology Award, we will invite you to a personal interview with Prof. Berend Denkena at our institute. During the interview, you will be asked to explain your motivation for participating in a research stay and present an initial outline of your research project and the plans for your stay.

  • I have been selected for the Technology Award. Now what?

    Congratulations! Once you have been selected for the Technology Award, you can start working on your research project and planning your stay. The Kurt Alten Foundation is there to help you with all financial questions.
