With the IFW into the wide world!

The IFW has a worldwide network of partner research institutions with existing exchange agreements, such as the University of Wollongong (Australia) or the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), the University of Berkeley (USA) or the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Brazil).

I don't have a specific goal yet and would like some advice!

Our contact person is happy to receive inquiries!

How do I get financial support for an exchange?

The IFW cooperates with the Kurt-Alten-Foundation to award scholarships for stays abroad for students of mechanical engineering and related courses. With its technology award, the Kurt-Alten-Foundation supports research stays of young students of Leibniz Universität Hannover with up to 10.000,- €. Highly talented candidates from the field of natural or engineering sciences can be selected.

Here, funding is independent of the exchange destination. The students can choose a worldwide destination for a sponsored student research project or thesis, an internship or a semester abroad.

The IFW also cooperates with the Dr. Jürgen-und-Irmgard-Ulderup-Foundation and the Sieglinde-Vollmer-Foundation in awarding scholarships.

What requirements should I meet?

  • Engineering or natural science studies
  • Above average study performance
  • Interest in production engineering topics
  • Selection of a suitable destination and, at best, confirmation of the possibility of stay
  • Age under 30

Which application documents do I need?

  • Application letter of the Kurt-Alten-Foundation
  • Cover letter/motivational letter
  • Resume
  • Certificates (bachelor's degree, high school diploma and optionally work references)
  • Current score sheet
  • Cost breakdown (flights, accommodation, insurance, etc.)
  • Optional: Letter of reference
