German-Brazilian Research Network: Three-day Coordinator Meeting at the PZH

From 22 to 24 October 2018, at the invitation of Professor Berend Denkena, Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW), the coordinators and processors of the currently active projects of the BRAGECRIM research network met. BRAGECRIM stands for "Brazilian German Collaborative Initiative in Manufacturing Technology". The network was founded in 2009.

As part of this research network, the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Brazilian education authority Coordenação de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) are funding a total of over 300 researchers in joint bilateral projects in the fields of production technology, metrology, logistics and materials sciences.

Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) has been involved since 2015 in the project "Relax - Influence of the manufacturing process on the subsequent residual stress relaxation in AISI4140 steel" together with the state universities in Belo Horizonte (UFMG) and São Carlos (UFSCar). The project is concerned with increasing the service life of steel components through the targeted application of residual stresses and the evaluation of the load-dependent reduction of residual stresses.

IFW has long-standing relationships with its Brazilian partners Prof. Alexandre Mendes Abrão (UFMG) and Prof. Carlos Ventura (UFSCar), both of whom conducted joint research at and with IFW before joining the programme. Within the framework of the programme, two Bachelor''s students, four Master''s students and two PhD students from Brazil were each given the opportunity to spend six-month periods of research in Germany. There is also the possibility for German students to visit these two research institutes. Interested students please contact Kolja Meyer, meyer@ifw.uni-hannover.de
